about dr Seuss

Dr Seuss was born on March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA. Theodor Robert Geisel was his father and Henrietta Seuss Geisel was his mother. His pseudonym, Dr. Seuss, is much better known than his real name. Dr Seuss wrote about 60 books during his lifetime, the first of which was a children's book called And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, published in 1937.

As a young man, Geisel's life took a turn that would lead him to fame as a writer. He became editor-in-chief of Dartmouth College's Jack-O-Lantern humor magazine, which eventually fired him after a drinking incident, but he continued to contribute to the paper under the pseudonym Seuss.

Later, Geisel went to Oxford University in England, but dropped out. Helen Palmer, whom Geisel met while studying at Oxford, became his wife.

After the couple returned to America, Geisel decided to pursue a career as a full-time writer and cartoonist, contributing to LIFE and Vanity Fair, Saturday Evening Post, Judge, Standard Oil, and Viking Press, among others.

Several of Geisel's works were adapted into animated films both before and after his death. Geisel's work also earned him a 1984 Pulitzer Prize, three Emmys, three Grammys and an Oscar.

Because in October 1967, Geisel was having an affair with an old friend of the couple, Audrey Stone Dimond, and Palmer, who was suffering from cancer, decided to end the emotional suffering caused by an affair with suicide. Her story did not have a happy ending.
